He now needs a Thai ID because he is now of age, so meaning as a child your child cannot get an ID untill they reach a certain age, but until they can they are allowed a passport with out

Imagine that. Being sentenced to death for dealing drugs. That is crazy. I'm not sure I support the death sentence for murderers, unless it is the most awful kinds. For drugs? I mean come on get with the times. Any countries putting people to death for something like this need to change that immediately. I'm sure it is rare though and in this case it is life in jail, but even that is crash harsh. I respect that Thialand wants to keep their people safe from drugs. I really do respect that. But maybe they should just deport people rather than killing them or sentencing them to life. I know it's tricky though.
All that said these people clearly knew the risk they were taking and they are absolute idiots for risking all they had for this.
Now I don't know much about passports regulations but some thing is very off here because this family should've been allowed to leave regardless that their sons Thailand passport expired since he has another valid passport from the UK since he has dual citizenship. Unless this was all about getting the family to spend more money in Thailand, a new ID an another passport on top of fines to the husband and wife for staying past their visa but it wasn't their fault since the airport refuse to allow their son to leave and didn't give a valid reason for why his other passport wasn't accepted, remember Thailand makes a big bulk of their money from the tourist and this may be the reason why anything that has to do with tourists involves with them paying some kind of money to Thailand. 🤷🏻♂️
If he is smart he just travels on UK Passport. My son is born in the Philippines. While we lived in Thailand he was granted his US Citizenship ( I am Swiss and US citizen) and he left Bangkok without any major problems. The Aussie dude and his Thai Wife are stupid. Everybody knows this is what they would face. If Singapore or Indonesia, they would face hanging or firing squad. Lucky them, but Thai officials can be paid off and I lived there long enough to say it is the truth. They are guilty.
