Any chance you still have the xbar around anywhere? I’m one of the folks ripped off by the company and kickstarter, but would love to still buy one (again). I know it’s a long shot…
Will the creators of this project actually fulfill it? It was due out almost a year ago and still nothing… Feels like a scam at this point… – A miffed backer of what feels like a scam
Most investors are didn't get this macheine.
The dream of a whole range of pneumatic kitchen tools will have to remain a dream a while longer.
Unless your pump is guaranteed to be food-safe, I don't think it is a good idea to use one. Otherwise, traces of potentially toxic lubricants might end up in your coffee.
You mention there are better options than the xbar… Could you tell me which those are? Ty
Nomad was like 150 on ks, right now is around 230, but it has none of the cons of this one, probably the only con is that the nomad kinda looks like a toy
Why didn't you try the air pump for it?
I could see it working with an HPA tank, like the ones on paintball markers. Maybe having a regulator on that side instead of the existing one would give better control. Though those aren't exactly cheap either so it'd be going against the point of having a lower budget machine.
I think a bike pump or a air compressor can leave particle of oil in the air, that why diving compressor are more expensive…
Thanks you for quite good review. But if it would be 1.5 longer with same amount of information, it would me more relaxing to watch it
Looks super cool but the threads at 5:42 made my OCD flare up. WAYYY too much fuss.
Nice review, thank you. 🙏
Sprometheus: The Barista tingles! 😆
interesting… designed for cyclists maybe
flair58 is coming lol. but i like xbar it lama feeling.
This could be good for van🤔
Can you use larger CO2 or NO2 canisters?
Hi . I have been thinking to buy the Cafelat Robot to make espresso and today I found this interesting product . Have you used both ? Will appreciate your input and thought, thank you !
Sounds like a fun new toy to play with. Thankfully I made it in time for the discounts.
Well it's not hard to agree about the CO2 cartridges – what an inelegant solution. Unnecessary expense and waste.
But nobody's going to hook a pump to this thing. Come on. I don't see any mention of it on the Kickstarter page, but dollars to donuts they'll make their own replacement cartridges available at some point. I'd be much less surprised to see that than to find out this was just a lack of forethought.
I’ll wait until version 2 or just pass on this concept completely. I paid the $5 for early bird access but didn’t invest in the crowdfund. I already spend enough money on CO2 cartridges for my soda siphons. Some people are upset that the compressor can’t pressurize the vessel like the CO2 cartridges. When you pressurize regular air, water condenses in the vessel. People who use air tools knows to drain their compressors of water. That water isn’t fit for human consumption. And that nasty water would end up in your espresso if you could pressurize the Xbar with a compressor. After watching early bird reviews, I decided to save up for a Flair 58
ill keep my choice of the 9barista…
Absolute. Hard. Pass. Though appreciate you taking the time to review 🙂
To me, this sounds a bit like a solution in search of a situation.
Despite this does not speak to me at all, I like that more people are thinking outside of the box to come up with ways to do good espresso affordably. I've also seen this Odyssey OE-1 that aims to do spring lever cheaply too on Hoon's channel, now that speaks to me.
Interesting.
Need to buy CO2 canisters for this thing to work…this is not a smart invention at all: those canisters can become a waste of trash 🗑
I would like to know more about the better options you talk about at the end of the video more than this machine😂
Started out great until I saw it uses CO2 cartridges for the pressure.. :/ nop.
I can see pressure adjustable pumps (manual and electric pumps) being made especially for this machine.
Also seeing the next version with an electronically heated brew head, like the flair 58.
Would be nice if they offered these features.
I'm thinking a 1 liter 150 psi air tank with adjustable pressure valve attached would work nicely.
9 bar = 130.5 psi
The audio levels between the voice and music transitions needs to be less jarring.
I think it is another toy, it is supposed to be designed in china, it is the point that why you have to buy it unless there is no electric supply at your house.
What a beautiful device. Makes my rocket look like a fat old man
You should check out and review the new PicoPresso by Wacaco. It’s a game changer.
This is not new. The Portaspresso Rossa PG Air does all this, but with only manual air rather than CO2. It’s been around for a good 10 years so is a proven, high quality product at similar pricing.
This is so cool
When designers and engineers think they're reinventing hot water.
I've got a keggerator with a 5lb CO2 canister. I'm wondering if that could be adapted to work with this machine.
What WOULD you recommend for someone looking to cut teeth? I got pretty reasonable espresso when I had access to a machine at work and I've been thinking about grabbing something for home. I don't mind manual or lever
Have you tried No2 cartridges and see how that affects the shot?
It looks cool, but the "low" price is $10 higher than Flair pro 2, and requires an extra component — a pump or a cartridge, which makes it unusable out of the box. Again, it does look fun, and if the retail was 169, it might be worth it. Thanks for the video! Cheers!
For those thinking about that system, i could imagine a Tubeless Tire Booster could work for that. Those are thanks you pump up with your bike pump to release the pressure fast later on to „pop“ tubeless tires in place on bicycles. I could imagine they might work and have way more capacity then those co2 cartridges 🙂
Hey Spro, does the the bike pump charge the co2 canister as well as pressurise the grouphead? If the Schrader valve did charge empty co2 canisters that'd be a bit of a fix to the charging dilemma.
Appreciate this video! What other espresso machines would you recommend that has a small footprint and is able to do 9bars? I currently have Delonghi dedica and finding ways to reduce the pressure seems to require a lot of tinkering and buying parts
